On the Possibility of Additional Planets in the Γ Cephei Binary-planetary System
نویسندگان
چکیده
Results of the simulations of the dynamical stability of additional hypothetical planets in the γ Cephei binary-planetary system are presented. Using the reported orbital parameters of the existing bodies (Hatzes et al. 2003), simulations were carried out for different values of the mass, eccentricity, and inclination of an additional Jupiter-like plantet to test the stability of this object at a distance of 3 to 5 AU from the primary star. Simulations were also carried out for fictitious Saturnand Neptune-like planets. Results indicate that the system appears to be dynamically full and no stable orbits of any additional planets were found.

On the Dynamical Stability of γ Cephei, an S-Type Binary Planetary System
Precision radial velocity measurements of the γ Cephei (HR8974) binary system suggest the existence of a planetary companion with a minimum mass of 1.7 Jupiter-mass on an elliptical orbit with a ∼2.14 AU semimajor axis and 0.12 eccentricity [1]. I present in this paper a summary of the results of an extensive numerical study of the orbital stability of this three-body system for different value...
متن کاملDynamical Stability and Habitability of γ Cephei Binary-Planetary System
It has been suggested that the long-lived residual radial velocity variations observed in the precision radial velocity measurements of the primary of γ Cephei (HR8974, HD222404, HIP116727) are likely due to a Jupiter-like planet around this star (Hatzes et al. 2003). In this paper, the orbital dynamics of this plant is studied and also the possibility of the existence of a hypothetical Earth-l...
متن کاملPlanets and Asteroids in the γ Cephei system
The binary star system γ Cephei is unusual in that it harbours a stable giant planet around the larger star at a distance only about a tenth of that of the stellar separation. Numerical simulations are carried out into the stability of test particles in the system. This provides possible locations for additional planets and asteroids. To this end, the region interior to the planet is investigat...
متن کاملHabitability of Planets in Binaries
A survey of currently known extrasolar planets indicates that close to 20% of their hosting stars are members of binary systems. While the majority of these binaries are wide (i.e., with separations between 250 and 6500 AU), the detection of Jovian-type planets in the three binaries of γ Cephei (separation of 18.5 AU), GL 86 (separation of 21 AU), and HD 41004 (separation of 23 AU) have brought...
متن کاملExponential law as a more compatible model to describe orbits of planetary systems
According to the Titus-Bode law, orbits of planets in the solar system obey a geometric progression. Many investigations have been launched to improve this law. In this paper, we apply square and exponential models to planets of solar system, moons of planets, and some extra solar systems, and compare them with each other.
